LIFE OF GUMBERT
- MARCH 1987
Bolted to the floor of Suds & Duds, between the change machine and dryer #6. One quarter in, one gumball out.
- DRYER #6
Out of order for longer than anyone can remember. The sign has been rewritten in three handwritings. Gumbert has read all of them.
- THE KEY
His price lock has one key. The guy who had it moved to Florida in 1994. Nobody has called him.
- THREE OWNERS
The laundromat changed hands three times and raised the dryers eleven times. Nobody touched Gumbert. Nobody could.
